These are tests that determine the functioning of the middle ear. It only takes from 3 to 30 seconds per ear. It may also be referred to as Immittance Testing, which includes tests called (a) Tympanometry, and (b) Acoustic Reflexes. In this type of evaluation, eardrum mobility is measured under different pressure conditions to determine if any problems exist in the middle ear. A parent of a deaf child might encounter the term Impedance Testing when scheduling a hearing evaluation to determine the functioning of their child’s middle ear.
