Bone Anchored Hearing Systems

Unlike hearing aids, bone-anchored hearing systems are surgically implanted devices that provide bone conduction of sound vibrations to the inner ear—this is in contrast to regular hearing aids, which amplify acoustic sounds that enter the ear canal. A parent of a deaf child might encounter the term “Bone Anchored Hearing Systems” when discussing treatment options with their child’s audiologist. They may be considering this option to help their child hear better and participate more fully in school and social activities.
